The Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI) has received
an official letter of appreciation from the PyeongChang Olympic Organizing Committee for its meritorious achievement of preventing the spread of the Norovirus, a foodborne virus, in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. KBSI has been recognized as contributing to the safe hosting of the Olympic Games by making a dedicated effort to prevent and manage infectious diseases by suppling hand sanitizers for the human-infectious Norovirus.

Right before the opening of the PyeongChang Olympic Games, KBSI contacted the National Research Council of Science & Technology in response to the news of the spread of Norovirus. They quickly organized the distribution of hand sanitizers (NORO-XTM) from BIO3S Co., Ltd. to the organizing committee several times during the Olympics.
